Weekend Sports Report

Queue up the theme tune to the film the Great Escape, Weymouth Football Club’s Senior men’s team travelled to Dover on Saturday knowing that only a win would do in their final game of the season if they were to avoid dropping into the Southern League and a win is what they got.

Two first half goals, one each from Bradley Ash and Ahkeem Rose with none conceded at the other end were enough to see the Terras secure their place in the National League South for another season.

After the game the former Weymouth player and manager Ian Hutchinson said: “Don’t judge manager Bobby Wilkinson by the performance of the team this season, now he can go out and recruit the players that he wants into his squad so judge him on next season’s performance”.

BRIDPORT ended their first Southwest Peninsula League Premier East season with a 3-0 defeat at second-placed Okehampton Argyle.

The Bees finished in 11th place in the league table which is a big improvement on recent seasons.

On Friday evening at Portland United’s Grove Corner ground Portland United Veterans played Southampton Legends in a charity match.

The Legends won the game by 3 goals to 1.
