Could you provide a home for unaccompanied children?

Dorset Council is looking for people who would be willing to foster or provide supported lodgings for unaccompanied children and young people.

Unaccompanied children are children and young people who have had to leave their home and country and have been separated from their parents or carers. In Dorset, unaccompanied children are cared for by the local authority as children in care. Along with other local authorities, we have a responsibility to provide a warm welcome and kindness to ensure children have a safe and nurturing home where they can thrive.

A large number of young people have travelled for many months before arriving in the UK. Many have experienced difficult and traumatic living circumstances, separated from their families and friends, without their needs being met.

Cllr Byron Quayle, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education, Skills and Early Help said:

“We are looking for people from all backgrounds to help care for these young people. You can be married, single or in a partnership, and from all ethnic groups and backgrounds. As with any child, these young people need safe and supportive environments that living in supported lodgings, or with a foster carer, can bring. If you have the time, space in your home, and are interested in helping to support these young people, then we want to hear from you. Get in touch with our fostering team today.”
