Further witness appeal as two men charged for burglaries in Weymouth

Two men have been charged as part of an investigation into two reported burglaries in Weymouth and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Dorset Police received a number of reports from members of the public relating to two reports of burglary in Shirecroft Road at around 2pm on Monday 11 March 2024.

Officers attended and, following enquiries, two men were arrested in connection with the incident.

A 38-year-old man from Basingstoke in Hampshire and a 45-year-old man from Weymouth were subsequently charged with burglary and assault with intent to commit robbery and were remanded in custody prior to appearing at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 13 March 2024. They are next due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday 11 April 2024.

Detective Sergeant Claire Lloyd, of Weymouth Volume Crime Team, said: “We would like to thank the vigilant members of the public who reported this incident to police.

“This enabled officers to respond and take action, with two suspects now arrested and charged.

“We are continuing to investigate this matter and I would appeal to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“I would also urge residents and motorists who were in the area to check any CCTV systems, doorbell cameras or dashcam footage for anything that might assist our investigation.”
