Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth held out against promotion chasing Braintree Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium until the 76th minute of the game then conceded a headed goal scored by the Iron skipper Baris Altintop.

To make the final score Weymouth 0 Braintree 1.

In the Southern Premier League Dorchester overturned 2 goals to 1 half time deficit at Beaconsfield to run out 4 –3 winners at Hollaway Park.

The Magpies scores coming from Will Spetch, Luke Pardoe, Marcus Dawe and a Rams own goal.

In the Wessex Premier League Portland United hosted Petersfield at Grove Corner, but the game was goalless and both teams shared a point each.

At St Mary’s Stadium Bridport entertained Torridgeside and a Fred Parsons’ strike with the visitor’s putting the ball in the back of their own net was enough for the Bees to claim all 3 Southwest Peninsular League East points with the final scoreline Bridport 2 v Torridgeside 0.

In the local rugby Weymouth & Portland completed their second Tribute Southern Counties League double of the season beating Yeovil away by 31 points to 8 with scrum half Jacob Brunell voted Man of the Match.

In the same division Dorchester lost out at North Dorset by 43 points to 21 and Swanage & Wareham went down by 12 points to 18 at Bestwall Park against Royal Wootton Bassett a xv.

In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Leagues Puddletown played hosts to neighbours Swanage & Wareham second team with the Swans taking the spoils back to Bestwall winning the game by 17 points to 5.

The Villagers of Puddletown touch down for their only try of the game.
