Are you entitled to Pension Credit? 5,000 people in Dorset are missing out

Dorset Council have told KeeP 106 that thousands of people who are over State Pension age are missing out on financial support that could mean they are £75 a week better off.

Pension Credit is extra financial help to assist with living costs if you are of State Pension age (66+) and on a low income. It can help with general housing costs and bills and give you extra support that you are entitled to.

It is separate from the state pension, which means that you could still be entitled to Pension Credit even if you have other income, savings or own your own home, if you fall within the criteria.

It is easy to check whether you are eligible by using the Pension Credit calculator online at www.gov.uk/pension-credit or call the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.

Cllr Ryan Hope, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Customer, Culture and Community Engagement said:

“This is money that many people over State Pension age are entitled to and it can open up access to other support to help with the continued rise in cost of living

“People who receive Pension Credit can also become eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, Council Tax reduction, Housing Benefit (for renters) or Support for Mortgage Interest (homeowners), the ability to apply for a free TV licence (if you are 75 or over) and help with NHS costs.

“The deadline to apply for Pension Credit and be eligible to claim the Winter Fuel Payment is 21 December, so time is running out. If you, or someone you know, could benefit from this additional income, check now to see if you are eligible. It only takes a few minutes.”

Apply for Pension credit online www.gov.uk/pension-credit, or by phone:
