Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth hosted Hornchurch at the Bob Lucas Stadium and conceded an early goal; then the Terras scored twice in succession through Jake McCarthy and Malachi Linton to go 2 goals to 1 up until the visitors equalized in the 41st minute.

That score remained until a minute before the break when Hornchurch scored again to take 3 goals to 2 lead into the second half.

After the break, Weymouth applied the pressure and it paid off in the 78th minute when Linton netted his second to level the score again, 3 all.

With both teams going for the win, the play was end to end, but neither side managed to break the deadlock, and the points were shared 1 apiece.

Our Man at the Match said: “A good point for Weymouth, and the result being drawn was just about correct as neither side deserved to lose. It was good to see Weymouth playing expansive football, and the players have stopped dropping their heads when they go behind. I only wish the Terras had played with this spirit from the start of the season, if they had of done then the they would not now be fighting to avoid relegation”.

Unfortunately for Weymouth defender Charlie Rowan picked up his second yellow card in the 90th minute followed by a red and off he marched.

Dorchester gained a valuable away point at Taunton, drawing the game 1 goal each, which was the same as the score when the two clubs met at the Avenue Stadium back in November.

Olaf Koszela scored the Magpies’ goal.

Portland United beat Brockenhurst at Grove Corner by 2 goals to nil.

George Stuttle and Josh Camp scored the Blue’s goals, and Bridport overran visitors Torrington at St. Mary’s, netting 6 times with no reply from the Devonians.

George Geraghty and Joe Charles netted twice each for the Bees, with 2 more coming from Fred Parsons and Steff Stavrianos.

Dorchester’s match against the Swans at Coburg Road was a close affair, and the result could have gone in either direction, but in the end, the visitors made fewer mistakes than the County Town and held out until the final whistle despite being under the cosh for the last 10 minutes of the game when Dorchester encamped deep inside the Swan’s territory.
