Appeal for information following attempted sexual assault in Weymouth

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward as they investigate a report of attempted sexual assault in Weymouth.

It was reported that between 6.55pm and 7.30pm on Saturday 10 May 2025 a woman aged in her 20s was on the beach near to the toilets by the King’s Statue on The Esplanade when she saw two men in orange hi-vis vests.

The men made inappropriate comments towards her, before one of them reportedly tried to touch her inappropriately over her clothing.

The victim was able to move away from the men and had no further contact with them.

The man who attempted to touch her is described as aged in his 50s with short or shaved hair and dark stubble.

Police Constable Courtney Smith, of Weymouth police, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident, and we are keen to hear from anyone with information that might assist our enquiries.

“There were a number of people in the area where this incident occurred as there was a concert taking place nearby on the seafront and I would urge any witnesses to please come forward.

“I would also urge anyone who has captured any mobile phone footage from the area around the relevant timeframe, to please check if they have captured anything of relevance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55250066380. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
