Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth have recently beaten the top two teams in the Southern Premier League to move clear of the drop zone, although they have played more games than most of the teams around them.

A fortnight ago, the Terras beat league leaders Walton & Hersham by three goals to one.

Last week they won away at Basingstoke two-one, and on Saturday at the Bob Lucas Stadium in front of a crowd in excess of 1700, Weymouth emerged victorious, winning the game against second-placed Poole Town by two goals to nil.

The Terras took the lead in the 6th minute courtesy of a Brandon Goodship strike, the lead lasted until the break despite the Dolphins being awarded a disputed penalty that Weymouth keeper Max Evans managed to keep out with a double save then in the second half the Weymouth defense was stretched to the limit to prevent the visitors from scoring before striker Barney Stone drove the ball past Poole custodian Adam Parks with three minutes of the game remaining.

Our Man at the Match said, “Great result for the Terras, the first half belonged to Weymouth, but after the turn around Poole took control and it was down to Weymouth’s defenders to keep them out and they did”.

“Every Weymouth player gave their all, whatever manager Jamie Wells is saying to them is definitely working. Weymouth have now beaten the top two teams in the division, and I don’t think I would have predicted that a few weeks ago”.

The pressure is mounting on Dorchester, who went down by four goals to one at the Avenue Stadium against Hanwell Town, leaving the Magpies second from bottom of the Southern League table.

The Magpies’ only goal came from Marcus Daws.

Portland United’s Wessex Premier League game at Brockenhurst was lost to the weather, and Bridport had no league fixture over the weekend.

He is running the Jurassic Coast 100km Ultra Marathon in May and is running for the @MNDA (MND Association), to raise valuable funds and awareness for the amazing charity! We have all seen in the media over the last months and years just how MND has affected our rugby community, and unfortunately, this awful disease has seemingly affected more and more of us in recent times.

If you are able to, please donate to this very worthy cause, and please reshare amongst your circles to keep raising awareness where we can.

The event is on May 16th, and the course takes Matt through Weymouth on his way from Corfe to Bridport. Any support you can give him will be greatly appreciated!
