Jane Austen: Down to the Sea. A new exhibition explores Jane’s connections with Dorset

“A little sea-bathing would set me up forever” – that’s a quote from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and an exhibition has just opened at the Dorset Museum to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth in 1775. The exhibition explores the sea as a setting for her fictional worlds and its influence on her and focusses on the Dorset coastal towns Jane visited or wrote about. Leisure, fashion, entertainment and wellbeing at the seaside are all covered. Andy Worth went along to Dorset Museum to find out more…
