Martin Clunes to star again at Weldmar’s Summer Fete

Long time supporter Martin Clunes will be attending the Weldmar Hospicecare Summer Fete on Saturday 13th September. The popular annual event will take place at the charity’s Inpatient Unit on Herringston Road in Dorchester from 11am to 4pm.

The actor and television star, who first attended the annual event in 2000, has become a popular draw for visitors, posing for countless photographs and having a go on many of the games and stalls.

Mr Clunes also spends time visiting patients who are currently being cared for at the hospice.

The family friendly fete will feature a variety of attractions, including entertainment, games, stalls, and a wide selection of food and drink. Highlights of the event include:

  • The Mystery Box game, where visitors can win prizes such as a Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart Bundle, a holiday to Cornwall, and a pizza oven, all donated by generous supporters.
  • Entertainment from a number of local singers and performers.
  • A wide range of stalls and games run by Weldmar staff and volunteers, including a human fruit machine, bottle tombola, plants, and classic cars.
  • Free complementary therapy taster sessions.
  • A barbecue, cakes, treats, and refreshments.

Clare Ash from Weldmar’s fundraising team says, “The Summer Fete is one of the highlights of our calendar. It’s so lovely to welcome the community and see smiling faces as they enjoy all the entertainment. Staff from across the charity take part – we have doctors flipping burgers and administrators serving cake, and it’s a wonderful day for everyone.”

Now in its 28th year, the Summer Fete is one of Weldmar’s most important fundraising events. Last year’s event raised a ‘Weld Record’ of £28,000, which goes directly to providing specialist care for local adults with a life limiting illness.

Entry for adults is just £2, with children free. Visitors are advised to bring cash, as some attractions will not accept card payments. A free park and ride service will be available all day between the hospice and the bus stop at Dorchester South train station, courtesy of First Bus.
