Poet who fell in love with Dorset remembered with new statue

A moment of history happened in Dorchester on Sunday 14th December 2025 as the town’s first non-royal female statue was unveiled.

Sylvia Townsend Warner was finally honoured with a long-overdue statue, enriching Dorchester’s literary and visual heritage.

Located outside Goulds fashion store she is the town’s first non-royal statue of a woman, joining the six statues of men that Dorchester already proudly displays.

KeeP 106 was at the unveiling of the statue, which was introduced by the chair of the Thomas Hardye Society, Mark Chutter, and here is our report…
