Weekend Sports Report

Before Weymouth & Portland Rugby Club’s match at Monmouth Avenue on Saturday against Oakmeadians a minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect of the Seahorses former captain and coach Trevor Williams who sadly passed away on Wednesday at the age of 81.

Football:

Weymouth opened the scoring in the 39th minute at the Bob Lucas Stadium against visitors Plymouth Parkway courtesy of a Brandon Goodship strike and took that lead into the break, but 2 minutes into the second half a lapse in the Terras defense allowed the visitors to level the scores.

In the 61st minute Weymouth’s Barney Stone was red carded by the referee and the Terras had to play out the remainder of the game down to 10 men.

They held out until the second minute of time added on then conceded a second goal eventually going down by 2 goals to 1 against one of their Southern Premier League relegation rivals.

Our Man at the Match said, “Weymouth were disappointing, Parkway could have scored 3 or 4 more goals and it’s obvious that the Terras definitely need another striker. And for Parkway’s second goal the Weymouth defence seemed to stand still. If the Terras are to get anything against Dorchester next week they must improve on this performance”.

Dorchester’s away match at Tiverton fell victim to the weather and will have to re-scheduled.

In the Wessex Premier League Portland and Sherborne fought out a goalless draw at Raleigh Grove, but Bridport returned from the Aerodrome with all 3 Southwest Peninsular East League points following their 3 goals to 2 victory against Middlezoy Rovers, Sam Fisher scoring twice for the Bees with Ryan Gall adding a third.
