Detectives are issuing an update following a detailed investigation into the death of a man in Weymouth.
Dorset Police received a report at 7.32am on Tuesday 13 May 2025 that a man had been found unresponsive in a tent on land off Mercery Road, near to the Mount Pleasant Park and Ride site.
Very sadly, the man – aged in his 30s – was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation was launched, led by detectives from Dorset County CID, and following enquiries a man aged in his 30s and a man aged in his 40s, both of no fixed abode, were arrested on suspicion of murder.
They were released on police bail as detectives conducted extensive further enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death. This included a detailed post mortem examination of the deceased and toxicological analysis, a process which took a number of months.
Following a careful review of all the available evidence gathered by detectives, police are now satisfied that there is no indication of any third party involvement that caused the man’s death.
The two men who were arrested have been released from police bail and will face no further action in relation to the death. The family of the deceased have been notified of this development.
Detective Chief Inspector George Graham, of Dorset County CID, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who sadly died.
“We have continued to keep them updated as we carried out a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances of the death.
“Following extensive enquiries, we are satisfied that there is nothing to indicate any third party involvement that caused the man’s death.
“This matter will now be the subject of coronial proceedings and we will continue to assist HM Coroner during this process.”
