Weekend Sports Preview

Weymouth football club’s defenders could find themselves up against Poole Town’s former Dorchester front man, Shaquille Gwengwe at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday, where the Southern Premier Leagues second highest goal scorer will run out with his Poole Town teammates.

Gwengwe has tallied up 28 goals for the Dolphins this season, while the Terras’ highest scorer, Brandon Goodship, has recorded nine.

Poole are currently in second place behind league leaders Walton & Hersham, with 16th placed Weymouth, who will come into the fixture on the back of a winning run of 3 on the spin, 1 against W&H.

Dorchester hosts Hanwell Town at the Avenue Stadium in the same division.

In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United visit Brockenhurst. Bridport’s first team has no scheduled league match this weekend, but the Bees’ reserves host Blandford at St. Mary’s for a Dorset Premier League fixture. Judging by the state of the pitch following Storm Chander’s visitation, it is very doubtful that the game will go ahead.

There are two Tribute Ale League Rugby matches this weekend, one in Bournemouth, where Oakmeadians are visited by Dorchester, while Puddletown travel to Brewery Fields to lock horns with Bridport.

Sunday, Women’s Football: Bridport vs Banwell, Ridgeway Dev vs Weymouth & Poole Dev. Vs Dorchester.

Sunday County Under 20 Men’s Rugby.

Berkshire vs Dorset & Wilts at Ram’s RFC, Reading.
