Weekend Sports Preview

Dorchester football club’s first team manager, Tom Killick, his assistant Steve “Taffy” Richardson, and coach James Wood have parted company with the Magpies senior men’s team, although Killick moves upstairs into the boardroom.

While the club completes the process of appointing a new first-team manager, Dorchester can confirm that player-coach Wes Fogden has been placed in charge of first-team affairs, ahead of the Magpies Southern Premier League South fixture away at Yate Town on Saturday.

The club added that further interviews and quotes will be available after the weekend, with everybody at the club fully focused on supporting Wes and the squad in getting a positive result on Saturday.

If you include the Dorset Senior Cup semifinal 5 goals to 1 result at Sherborne Weymouth have now won 4 matches on the spin, two against both of the top Southern Premier League sides, however although the Terras’ run of form has taken them into 16th place in the league table they have played more matches than the teams around them who are also fighting tooth and nail in hope of avoiding the drop into the division below.

On Saturday, Weymouth could make it 3 wins out of 3 games against the top sides as they visit KMM Energy Stadium to lock horns with 3rd place Gloucester City.

During the week, Weymouth have acquired the services of former Winchester City midfielder Matt Neale, who goes straight into the squad for the trip to Gloucester.

In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United hosts Cowes Sports at Grove Corner, while in the Southwest Peninsular League East Bridport entertains Cullompton Rangers at St. Mary’s, but at the time of writing, the game is very reliant on the amount of rain between now and Saturday.
