Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth football club’s senior men’s team failed to extend their winning run to 4 Southern Premier League wins on the bounce, going down 3-1 away to Gloucester City.

However, they were still very much in contention going into the final 5 minutes with the scores level at 1 goal apiece, but pushing on for the winner, the Terras conceded 2 late strikes, which put a totally different slant on the result.

Our Man at the Match said,” Two lapses in defence cost Weymouth at least a point as a draw would have been a fair result. The Terras now have taken 9 points out of a possible 12, and a few weeks ago, very few Weymouth fans would have predicted that”.

Weymouth’s goal came from the boot of Brandon Goodship with a 54th-minute penalty.

Dorchester’s new interim manager, Wes Fogden, turned around the Magpies’ fortunes with his first game in the hot seat. The Magpies travelled to Yate and returned to the Avenue Stadium with all 3 Southern Premier League points courtesy of a Joe Parker strike to make the final score Yate nil Dorchester 1.

Portland United hosted Cowes Sports at Grove Corner and sent their guests back across the Solent on the wrong end of a 6 goals to 1 scoreline.

Archie Woolford netted twice for the Blues, with George Stuttle, Sam Gadsby, Greg Borthwick & Ben Morris all scoring a goal each for Portland.

All of Bridport football club’s matches this weekend were lost to the weather and will have to be rescheduled.

Two Tribute Ale Rugby results.

East Dorset Dockers 3 pts vs Dorchester 27. Puddletown 20 vs Yeovil 33.

Only one women’s football result on Sunday, Poole Town Dev. Nil vs Ridgeway 3:

A wet pitch caused the Terras’ women’s game at the Bob Lucas Stadium to be cancelled, but that didn’t deter the Weymouth & Portland rugby girls, who, despite the soggy conditions underfoot, beat their Eastleigh guests at Monmouth Avenue by 36 points to nil.
