The Dorset & Wilts RFU County head coach, Don Parsons, has stepped down for family reasons following 13 years of success coaching the county squad.
During Don’s tenure, the Senior Men’s team has lifted the County Championship Trophy on four occasions, twice at Twickenham.
Team manager Richard Elliott said, “Don is not only a successful rugby coach, but also a great supporter of county rugby, and I personally want to thank him for all of the hard work he has put in over multiple campaigns”.
The Dorset & Wilts Senior Men’s management team has appointed former Bournemouth, Wimborne, and the Dorset & Wilts Under 20’s coach Matt Sturgess as Parsons’ replacement.
Eliott added. “Matt has a good coaching pedigree and has county competition experience with the Under 20’s, and he knows what needs to be done to produce a successful squad, so I am looking forward to working with him in this season’s Bill Beaumont County Championship competition”.
It’s another six-pointer for Weymouth Football Club’s senior men’s team on Saturday when they travel to Lodge Road to play Yate Town for a Southern Premier League fixture.
The Bluebells are currently inside the relegation zone in 20th place, whereas the Terras are two places above them in 18th. Still, Yate have a game in hand, with only two league points separating the two clubs, so if Yate win this one, they will leapfrog above Weymouth, and the absolute minimum the Terras fans will want is a share of the points.
In the same division, Dorchester, who lost by two goals to one in midweek away at Farnham, hosts Bracknell Town at the Avenue Stadium.
Portland United have a home Wessex Premier League game at Grove Corner against East Cowes Victoria. At the same time, in the Southwest Peninsular League East, Bridport travel into Devon to take on the Boys in Blue of Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police.
