The former Boots store in Weymouth is set to become a bingo centre.
Dorset Council is being asked to approve the changes for the listed St Mary Street building- installing a new shopfront and making internal alterations.
A proposed sign, in blue and white, would read ‘Trinity Bingo’, if agreed.
An agent acting for the building’s owner says that the new use and new frontage would benefit the town centre Conservation Area and bring a property which has been empty since mid-2022 back into use, as well as create an undisclosed number of jobs.
The proposals include the removal of an internal partition wall between Nos. 81 and 82— which the agent argues does not constitute “development” and therefore does not require planning permission.
The scheme also includes replacing the existing aluminium shopfront at No. 81 with a traditional timber design to match its neighbour, a move which it is argued will enhance the appearance of the listed building itself and the surrounding Conservation Area.
A new unilluminated fascia sign—5.5 metres by 0.8 metres—would feature a blue timber panel with white “Trident Bingo” lettering and a lighter blue underline.
