Residents and visitors were invited to explore Weymouth’s hidden history when a major community archaeology dig opened its doors to the public on 9th May. The Weymouth Community Excavation 2026 Open Day took place at the excavation site on St Nicholas Street, Weymouth, the site of the former ten-pin bowling alley. Left Jenny Rains & right Jim Goodey. Jim is dressed as a period musket man of the English Civil War when Weymouth, Royalists supporters of King Charles fought 1st fought the Parliamentarians who were sited in Melcombe Regis firing cannons and muskets across the river Wey.
