Weekend Sports Report

Weymouth Football Club would like to announce the signing of Mitch Beardmore, subject to FA approval.

Mitch joins the Terras following the conclusion of his contract with Bath City.

Jason Matthews, Director of Football, had this to say:

“I’d like to say a big welcome to Mitch. We are extremely pleased and excited that he has chosen to come to us. He is the type of player our fans will like to see play, a great addition to the squad. I personally cannot wait to see him in a claret and blue shirt. Welcome to the club.”

Portland United can confirm the departure of Greg Borthwick following his retirement.

Borthwick played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Southern League Division One South, having rejoined the club in January 2025, finishing as top goal scorer in the 2025/26 season.

The club would like to place on record their thanks to Greg and for all he’s achieved at Portland United. We all wish him the very best in his retirement.

The Blues have announced the list of players retained from last season.

Added to the list are two new signings, Connor Bent and Alex Borges.

Once again, the inclement weather has decimated not only the Dorset League Cricket, with none of our local clubs managing to bowl an over, but also the Cornish Pilot Gig Association Mixed Grand Prix, which was scheduled to take place at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy over the weekend and was cancelled due to safety concerns. The event had attracted 92 crews to the Dorset resort and will be a big financial loss for the local business community.

However, the strong winds didn’t deter some kayakers who took to the waters at Osprey Quay and wind and kite surfers who revelled in the conditions in the sea off Preston Beach.
