UPDATED: Man in his 20s from Poundbury arrested on suspicion of Weymouth rape

Detectives investigating a report of rape in Weymouth town centre are issuing an update.

Dorset Police received a report at 2.44am on Thursday 18 June 2026 that a man had raped a woman aged in her 20s, with the incident reported to have occurred at around between 2am and 2.30am in Clifton Place.

A full investigation was launched into the incident, led by detectives from Dorset County CID, and specially-trained officers are continuing to support the victim.

Following detailed enquiries, a man aged in his 20s from Poundbury was arrested on suspicion of rape. He has now been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector George Graham, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are continuing to support the victim and she is being kept updated with developments in the investigation.

“Our investigation is continuing and we are still appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to please come forward.

“We recognised that an incident of this nature may cause concern for the local community and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.”
