Weymouth could be getting a third Wetherspoon pub – based at one of the town’s main holiday sites.
Plans have been seen for the outlet at the Haven Weymouth Bay site off Preston Road, part of the main building and just north of the main play area.
Neither Haven or Wetherspoon are keen to talk about the development at this stage.
Plans for an massive £20million expansion at the site, which could add 240 extra holiday homes, were recently deferred by Dorset councillors for a site visit after objections from neighbours.
The pub proposal emerged through a separate planning application to Dorset Council for advertising consent for five lit signs for a building at the holiday site. Closer inspection revealed the J D Wetherspoon logo in signs of 2.7metres across and a space on the building for the venue name, although it does not reveal what it might be called.
Although the pub chain is named as the applicant in the proposal Wetherspoon referred inquiries to Haven which, in turn, said it had nothing to share at the moment.
Haven does have nine parks across the country with Wetherspoon pubs where, over the course of a year, a million Wetherspoon pub meals have been sold.
Said the Haven chief executive Simon Palethorpe in an interview with a national newspaper (Daily Mirror) in June: “I would like to see us growing this concept further across our estate. I definitely think there is an opportunity for the majority of our parks to have a Wetherspoons.”
Haven’s Wetherspoons are run on a franchise basis, with the same menu found in any other its pubs.
Haven were asked if the pub would be open to non-residents on the park but did not answer the question.
Wetherspoon currently has two of its pubs in Weymouth, the Swan and the William Henry, the latter most recently adding to its hours, primarily to serve meals late into the evening, according to the licensing application, which also named the pub as one of its busiest for meal sales.
The advertising application, which is open for public comment until August 17, can be seen on the Dorset Council website using reference P/ADV/2026/03765 .
