Home‑waters world championships do not come around that often. September’s iQFOiL Worlds will be staged in Weymouth and Portland.
With the world’s top windsurfers heading to the 2012 Olympic waters, the organisers hope the championships will become a focal point for the area’s watersports community.
Weymouth and Portland offer a near‑perfect natural arena for the Olympic windsurfing discipline.
Inside Portland Harbour, sailors enjoy flat water which is ideal for high‑speed foiling, but a short sail beyond the breakwater brings rolling Atlantic swell and proper hardcore sailing conditions.
Local Football Report:
Mixed FA Trophy fortunes for our local non-league football clubs: both Weymouth and Portland United progressed into the next round with victories over Melksham and Hungerford Town, but Dorchester crashed out away to Larkhall Athletic.
Our Man at the Weymouth Match said: “Last season the Terras couldn’t even buy a goal, but things have changed now and several players have got their names on the score sheet so far. Melksham scored first, then it was mostly one-way traffic. Unfortunately for Weymouth, with 10 minutes remaining, Lewis Brown was shown a straight red card, but it came too late to affect the result, and on Bank Holiday Monday the Terras travel to Melksham this time for a league fixture, so the Weymouth fans will be hoping for more of the same”.
Bridport returned from Crediton with a Southwest Peninsular League East point.
FA Trophy Results:
Larkhall Athletic 2 vs Dorchester 1. Dorchester scorer: Matt Burrows.
Weymouth 5 vs Melksham 1. Weymouth scorers: Toby Holmes 2, Tom Bearwish, Calvin Brooks & Tor Swann.
