Multi-award winning trio from Scotland head to Dorset

In just five years, Scottish firebrands Talisk have stacked up several major awards for their explosively energetic yet artfully woven sound, including 2017’s Folk Band of the Year at the BBC Alba Scots Trad Music Awards, and a BBC Radio 2 Folk Award. As part of a large UK tour this November, which takes in venues such as Liverpool Philharmonic, Kings Place London and Cambridge Junction, Talisk will perform live in Dorset for one night only, through Artsreach, the county’s touring arts charity.

Mohsen Amini, Hayley Keenan and Graeme Armstrong seamlessly meld concertina, fiddle and guitar to produce a multi-layered, enthralling sound that has effortlessly captivated audiences from the USA to Australia, and throughout the UK.

Appearances at world-leading festivals including the Cambridge Folk Festival, WOMAD and Celtic Connections have amassed a die-hard following, whilst the world’s folk and world music media have also lauded high praise on the trio. Lead man Mohsen Amini on concertina was crowned BBC Radio 2 Folk Musician of the Year in 2018, and has been nominated again in 2019.

The release of Talisk’s hotly anticipated second album, Beyond, in October 2018 was met with a five-star ‘Top of the World’ review in Songlines, praising the band as “incredibly infectious and endearing. fresh, invigorating, accomplished and playfully frisky.” Indeed, the album has recently been nominated for Album of the Year in the Scots Trad Music Awards.

Artsreach Co-Director Kerry Bartlett said “I was lucky enough to see Talisk perform at WOMAD festival last summer, and their sheer energy and exquisite musicianship blew me away – I am so thrilled that Artsreach can present them in a rural venue and with over half of the tickets sold already, it’s set to be a brilliant evening.”

Catch this outstanding band as they visit Dorset for one night only, performing in Cerne Abbas Village Hall on Thursday 14 November. Further information and tickets are available from 07779 299541, in person from Cerne Abbas Stores or online at www.artsreach.co.uk
