Dorset young carers receive food shopping from local bikers

Local motorcycle riders have been delivering food to young carers and their families across Dorset.

20 young carers and their families had their food shopping delivered by The Bike Shed, a motorcycle riding group, who volunteered to support local communities during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Dorset Council supports children and young people aged between 5 and 18 who provide regular care and emotional support to a family member who is ill or disabled.

Members of the motorcycle riding group were keen to help local communities during the pandemic and teamed up with young carers’ charity MYTime to support local children, young people and their families.

Vikki van Someren, Co-Founder of The Bike Shed Motorcycle Club, told KeeP 106:

“Times have been particularly challenging for the young carer community. It’s been a privilege for our volunteer riders to work alongside MYTime in helping to provide support to these incredible young people and their families.”

Cllr. Andrew Parry, Dorset Council Portfolio Holder for Children, Education and Early Help, said:

“We would like to thank the BikeShed for delivering food to some of our young carer families. Our young carers do a wonderful job and we’re grateful to MYTime and The Bike Shed volunteers for stepping in to help us support children and their families during this difficult time.
