Dorset Museum appeal for volunteers to join

The museum is getting ready to open your new £16.1million redeveloped Dorset Museum, but they can’t do it without a dedicated team of volunteers to support the museum staff.

Your new Museum is bigger than ever before and they are looking to increase the number of volunteers in the following visitor facing roles:

Welcome Desk: Be the first to welcome visitors to the Museum, be part of their memorable visit. This role includes supporting staff in the shop as well as promoting Society membership and events.

Gallery Stewards: This new role has been introduced to guide and assist visitors around the amazing new galleries and spaces.

Visitor Engagement and Learning Volunteers: Engage with and assist all visitors including families and groups with displays and activities ensuring their memories of Dorset Museum are filled with joy.

Library Supervisor: The amazing new library has returned to its original location, is light and airy, and open to all visitors.

Visitor Services Manager, Gemma Hurlstone, told KeeP 106: “We have many exciting volunteering opportunities offering you the chance to join a fantastic group of people. All volunteers will have access to an extensive training package and we are fully committed to supporting volunteer development and recognising their strengths and engaging their interests.”

Museum Executive Director, Dr Jon Murden said: “There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in your new Museum. At the moment we are
concentrating on welcoming visitors to our new Museum, but we also have amazing teams of volunteers who support our staff in caring for, conserving, and protecting the Museum’s collection of four million objects. Our volunteers help us make activities and events special and educational visits unforgettable.”

If you would like more information, Role Descriptions, and an application form, send an e-mail to volunteering@dorsetcountymuseum.org.

Dorset Museum is committed to compliance with Covid-19 related government rules and regulations. The health and safety of all staff, volunteers, and visitors are paramount.
