Some lockdown restrictions lifted

From today 12 April, we are entering phase 2 of the easing of lockdown restrictions.

Non-essential shops and personal care premises, including hairdressers and nail salons will reopen. Outdoor hospitality venues, including pubs and restaurants will be open for table service only. Public buildings, such as libraries, outdoor attractions, including zoos and theme parks, will also reopen.

Weddings, civil partnership ceremonies, wakes and other commemorative events will be able to take place for up to 15 people.

Self-contained accommodation will open for overnight stays in England, for household or support bubbles only.

Care home residents will be able to nominate two named individuals for regular indoor visits, following a rapid lateral flow test.

You should continue to minimise travel and work from home where possible.

Free rapid COVID-19 testing available in England for all adults

From today 9 April, twice-weekly free rapid COVID-19 lateral flow device (LFD) testing will be available for all adults in England. LFD tests are for people who do not have symptoms. Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 should self-isolate immediately and book a PCR test online or call 119.

By testing more people, we can identify and isolate more asymptomatic cases, meaning the virus has fewer chances to spread.

Go to an LFD testing site – find details of local sites and book here

Take a test at home – order kits online or collect from a test site or some local pharmacies

Take a test through a workplace/school/university testing scheme, if eligible.

Travel safely

The ‘stay at home rule’ has been lifted, but you should continue to minimise travel and avoid making unnecessary trips and combine trips where possible. If you do need to travel, ensure you:

  • Plan your journey and avoid busy times and routes on public transport
  • Regularly wash or sanitise your hands
  • Wear a face covering unless exempt
  • Keep your distance from others where possible
