Weymouth RNLI All Weather lifeboat was called out to assist a tired and frightened crew aboard a yacht.
Launched at 01.10 on Wednesday 25th August the lifeboat was on scene at 1.52am to the relief of a tired and frightened crew of a 37’ yacht which had set off from Brixham and was motoring to Weymouth when they ran out of fuel some considerable distance from Weymouth.
The volunteer lifeboat crew passed a line and the vessel was towed back to Weymouth arriving at 3.15am.
Just after 6am Solent Coastguard received a Pan Pan message from a yacht in Lulworth Cove saying that they had dragged their anchor and were on the rocks.
Both the All-Weather and Inshore lifeboats were launched.
The Inshore lifeboat launched at 6.15am and being the faster of the 2 boats arrived at 6.37am, only to find that the 2 persons on the stranded yacht had managed to get themselves off of the rocks and that the assistance of the lifeboats was no longer needed.
The All-Weather lifeboat was released even before arrival on scene and returned to Weymouth Harbour at just about the same time as the Inshore lifeboat at 6.57am.
