Appeal for information following collision in Weymouth

Officers investigating a road traffic collision in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at around 10.50pm on Tuesday 24 August 2021 of a single vehicle collision in Melcombe Avenue, near to the junction with Dorchester Road. It was reported that the vehicle involved – a black Audi A3 – had sustained damage and the driver had left the scene on foot.

Officers attended and carried out a search of the area but the driver was not located.

The driver is described as a white man, around five feet six inches tall and with shoulder length dark hair. He was said to be wearing a black top and jeans.

Police Constable Matthew Campbell, of Weymouth police, said: “We are carrying out a number of enquiries into this incident, including efforts to trace the registered keeper of the vehicle involved.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who was travelling in the area and may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam, to please come forward. It is believed the vehicle involved travelled along The Esplanade before turning up Dorchester Road prior to the collision.

“I would also like to hear from anyone with any further information relating to the identify of the driver involved.”
