Weymouth Farmers’ Market hailed a success!

The Weymouth Farmers and Makers Market on 14th November was the biggest yet when four organisations got together to give local Dorset food producers and crafts people the chance to sell their work to Weymouth residents and visitors, as part of the economic recovery. Best in Dorset and Weymouth Area Development Trust were joined this time by Dorset Food and Drink, with support from the governments Welcome Back Fund.

Market organiser Alison Calder said, “After 18 months of ‘Lock Downs’ and uncertainty, it was a fantastic turn out from the traders, and we had some lovely feedback from residents. The Dorset Rock Choir were brilliant and added to the atmosphere. We hope to see many of the traders return with their stalls on December 12th for the last market before Christmas.”

Caroline Richards, of Dorset Food and Drink said, “The Welcome Back fund made it possible for us to coax more traders into Weymouth and  the feedback has been tremendous. Supporting local food producers and makers to recover from what has been a challenging time for everyone, is what Dorset Food and Drink is all about. We are delighted with the result!”

The Weymouth Farmers and Makers Market was brought to the town after a successful campaign led by the community group Weymouth Area Development Trust, and other town organisations including Weymouth Town Council and Weymouth Bid.

Chris Wilson said “WADT are delighted. Our Facebook campaign in 2019 had nearly 2,500 votes to bring a regular market back to Weymouth and in November 2021 it filled New Bond Street, wrapping around the White Hart Pub with at least 30 stalls.

“Walking through you could smell the sourdough pizza ovens running and the fresh bread. We listened to the Choir and bought fresh eggs, coffee beans and an exquisite small glass Christmas wreath for our tree. Many of the stall holders are Weymouth people, and all are from Dorset. It was lovely to see and thank you to the volunteers who helped with parking and stalls. Looking forward to December.”

The last Weymouth Farmers and Makers Market before Christmas will be on Sunday 12th December 2021 10am to 3pm.
