New Years Honours Recognition for Dorchester & Dorset Councillor

Dorchester and Dorset councillor and retired police officer Les Fry has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s New Years Honours List.

The award recognises Mr Fry’s voluntary service to the community in Dorchester and West Dorset. Whilst humbled by the award, Les says it’s nice to be recognised, although he doesn’t expect this sort of thing because his community work is his hobby which he enjoys.

After nearly 28 years Les retired as a Dorset Police Inspector in 2018 having been an Inspector in Dorchester and Sherborne and previously had a responsibility for rural crime with a background in farming.

In addition to his work as as a local councillor, Les’ many connections include the Dorchester Youth and Community Centre, currently as a trustee having helped to raise nearly £60,000, an active member of Casterbridge Rotary Club for which he is due to be President again in 2022, and is a member of Dorchester Beerex which has raised £19,000 for good causes. Les has contributed to many other schemes both locally and abroad, including volunteering in Kenya, raising money for prostate cancer by walking the Jurassic Coast, helping set up the team of volunteers for the Covid vaccination programme at the Atrium Centre, and much more….not to mention completing three London Marathons raising money for local good causes.

We offer our congratulations to Les on this award and thank him for his continued support of KeeP 106, the community radio station.
