Weymouth Football Club’s part time players go into Monday’s Second Proper FA Cup draw following their dramatic 1 all draw against League 2 professionals AFC Wimbledon at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.
Following a nervous first five minutes when a lapse in the defense allowed the Dons to take the lead though striker Ayoub Assal who lobed the ball over the head of home custodian Zaki Oualah into the Terras empty net.
As the game progressed Weymouth grew in confidence and came out for the second half now with the elements in their favour and despite going close on a number of occasions the Dons still held the 1 goal lead going into the final quarter of the cup tie.
In the 70th minute the Terras won a free kick 25 yards out from the visitor’s goal. Tom Blair stood over the ball dummied his kick then Ahkeem Rose drove the ball through Don’s wall and into the corner of the net to send the Terras faithful into ecstasy.
In the final 20 minutes both sides had chances to snatch victory, but the score remained unchanged and now it’s the 2 clubs who go into the hat for the second-round draw.
Dorchester overcame the challenge from the Boys in Blue, the Met Police at the Avenue Stadium in a Southern League fixture, their winner coming from striker Olaf Koszela with no reply from the visitors to make the final score Dorchester 1 v Met Police nil..
In the Wessex League Portland United went down by 2 goals to 3 against Grove Corner visitors AFC Portchester while in the Peninsular League East Bridport drew 2 goals all at St Mary’s against Elburton Villa.
On Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s women’s team were at home against Pucklechurch women and in the 40th minute trailing by 4 goals to 1 when Nia Bywater clashed heads with a visiting player and was carried off on a stretcher and both teams agreed to abandon the match. Nia was checked over by the medics and allowed to go home to convalesce.
The quarter-final of the Dorset Senior Cup is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 6 December 2022 (KO 7:45pm).

In the local rugby Dorchester beat Trowbridge second team by 64 points to 19 away, Blandford ran out 20 points to 15 winners at home against Royal Wootton Bassett a xv and Swanage & Wareham lost by 39 points to 33 at Avonvale all in Tribute Southern Counties South.
In Tribute Dorset & Wilts Division 1 South Weymouth & Portland returned from Wimborne beating their Extra First xv by 32 points 7 and Bridport ran out 19 points to nil victors against Puddletown at Brewery Field.
