The weather decimated the local sport this weekend with most football and rugby matches postponed due to frozen pitches causing player safety concerns.
One match that did beat the icy conditions took place at the Avenue Stadium Dorchester where the Magpies locked horns with Southern League high fliers Turo City.
A Charlie Gunson screamer from fully 30 yards beat visiting keeper’s James Hamon’s desperate diving attempt to keep it out that sealed the result for Dorchester.
The move came straight off the training field in the 37th minute from a free kick wide on the left, the ball was worked to Gunson who lined up his strike then unleashed a right foot drive to the keeper’s right that almost burst through the back of the net.
Dorchester then rode their luck for the remainder of the contest with Matt Neale clearing the ball off of the goal line following a corner and both sides having opportunities to score, but it was the Magpies who saw out time and banked all 3 league points that prevented Turo going onto the top of the league table.
Weymouth Football Club can confirm the departure of forward Matty Burrows, who has made his loan move at AFC Totton permanent for an undisclosed fee.
Matty Burrows made a total of 5 appearances for the club before joining Southern League Division One South high fliers AFC Totton on loan in November. During his loan spell, he’s made an important contribution to the Stags’ attack, scoring 5 times, prompting Totton to make an offer to sign Matty permanently. Burrows celebrated his permanent signing by netting the only goal of the game on Saturday at home against Willand Rovers.
Manager Bobby Wilkinson: “Matty is a fantastic boy who has a really bright future, however we received a fantastic offer from Totton which was just too good to turn down. As a club, we feel we have enough depth in that forward area with Ahkeem, Brad, Thommo, who will be coming back soon, and Josh so we have made the decision to let him leave. We all wish him all the very best for the future.”
It’s now time for Terras fans to vote for their Player of the Month of November.
Weymouth & Portland rugby club’s Tribute Dorset & Wilts Division 1 South fixture against Oakmeadians that was postponed today (Saturday) has been re-scheduled for the 21st of January 2023.
