Appeal for witnesses following attempted robbery in Weymouth

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following an attempted robbery in Weymouth.

The incident occurred at around 9.30pm on Friday 20 January 2023 as the victim – a local man aged in his 40s – was on Chickerell Road near to Alf’s Fish & Chips.

It is reported that the victim saw a group of five or six people in the area. He was punched by one of the group to the side of his head, causing him off balance and to fall to the floor.

Nothing was stolen during the incident.

Police Constable Karam Mander, of Weymouth police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened, or may have captured anything of relevance on either dashcam or CCTV footage, to please get in touch.

“I understand a woman in a hatchback vehicle stopped to help the victim following the incident and I am really keen to speak to her as she may have important information to help my enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk/contact or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230010522. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
