Child flown to Southampton General Hospital following car crash near Cerne Abbas

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward as they investigate a serious injury road traffic collision near Dorchester.

Dorset Police received a report at 10.26am on Thursday 6 April 2023 of a single vehicle collision on the Old Sherborne Road near to Cerne Abbas, between Piddle Lane and Alton Lane. The vehicle involved was a white Fiat Punto.

Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded.

A child passenger was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to serious injuries. Their family has been informed.

Another passenger from the vehicle was treated for minor injuries.

Police Constable Tracey Downer, of the traffic unit, said: “We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and our thoughts are with the family of the child who was seriously injured.

“We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage, to please make contact with us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.”
