Just 15 people board the Barge today (7th August)

Our reporter Idris Martin observed the country’s national media who descended once again on The Jailhouse Cafe overlooking Portland Port in anticipation of getting a glimpse of the first ‘refugees/asylum seekers’ boarding the Bibby Stockholm barge.

For a while they were disappointed since, by lunchtime, all there was to see was a port worker pushing his bike along the quayside.

However, news outlets such as the Dorset Echo later published PA images of the coach carrying the refugees arriving at the port showing crowds, including youngsters, welcoming them to Portland.

The Home Office has confirmed just 15 people have boarded the barge today.
