Bank Holiday Sport Report

Dorchester broke their Southern Premier League duck at Poole beating their hosts by 2 goals to 1.

The first half failed to excite both sets of fans with neither keeper having a save to make, but after the break the game exploded into life.

Magpies striker Olaf Koszela went close with a header then his striking partner Shaq Gwengwe had a penalty shout dismissed by the referee Mr Shaun Phillips.

In the 79th minute Gwengwe beat the offside trap to round the Poole keeper and stroke the ball into the back of the empty net to put Dorchester into a 1 nil lead.

Three minutes into time added and Poole were down to 10 men when Gwengwe was scythed down and denied a scoring opportunity with the defender seeing a straight red card and an early shower.

From the resulting free kick Jordan Barnett curled the ball over the defending wall of players and into the back of the net.

Poole managed a consolation goal at the death, but it came too late to alter the result and the Magpies take three valuable league points back to the Avenue Stadium with the final score line Poole 1, Dorchester 2.

Weymouth travelled to play National League South high flyers Worthing and return to the Bob Lucas Stadium on the wrong end of a 2 goals to nil result and to make things worse they had Teddy Howe sent off late in the game for picking up 2 yellow cards, the second for dissent.

Our Man at the Match said: “The first half was scrappy and the second wasn’t much better, their keeper had only one save of note to make for the entire 90 minutes and again in my opinion our Man of the Match was our keeper Gérard Benfield. He was only beaten by a penalty and a goal that many Terras fans thought was offside so that isn’t too bad”.

“If I had to put my money on a promotion winning team from what I have seen so far this season Chelmsford, who beat Weymouth 3 nil at the Bob Lucas on Saturday, would be where I would place it”.

The final score Worthing 2 Weymouth nil.

Tuesday evening at Grove Corner Portland United host Totton and Eling in the first round of the Wessex League Cup while at St Mary’s Bridport are at home for a Southwest Peninsular League East fixture against visitors Honiton Town.
