Weymouth Football Club’s senior men’s team played hosts to National League South visitors Eastbourne Borough at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday and sent their guests back home on the wrong end of 3 goals to 1 scoreline.
Our Man at the Match said: “We fell away a bit after the break, Eastbourne had a few good shots on target, but our new keeper Hugo Fisher managed to keep them out until he conceded one, then it looked like whoever scored the next goal would probably go on to win the game and fortunately for the Terras, it was Dan Roberts”.
The Terras’ goals were shared between Tom Bearwish, Ezio Touray and our Man at the Match’s Man of the Match Dan Roberts.
In the Southern Premier league Dorchester travelled to Hendon and lost out by the only goal of the game, however Portland United visited Torpoint for a FA Trophy tie and with neither side bothering the scoreboard operator after 90 minutes the game was eventually decided by penalties.
Jamie Symes, Josh Williams, Jack Delves and Greg Borthwick all scored for the Blues and with Torpoint only managing to put two into the Portland net it’s the Blues who go into the draw for the next round.
On Sunday the Terras women’s team hosted local rivals Ridgeway Ladies at the Bob Lucas Stadium and it was Weymouth women who won the derby by 4 goals to nil.
The Terras goals coming from Charlie Wilson, Zara Hunt, Annie Redding and Kaydee Thornicroft.
In the local rugby, Tribute Southern Counties League Weymouth and Portland crossed the Ridgeway to lock horns with Dorchester at Coburg Road and despite trailing by 10 points to nil at one stage early in the second half rallied and crossed the home whitewash twice with former County Town center James Baker adding a late penalty to an earlier conversion it was enough for the Seahorses to travel back with a 15 points to 13 win in the bank. In the same division Swanage & Wareham 29 v Walcot 21.
In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Leagues, Blandford 12 v Lytchett Minster 36, Wimborne A xv 34 v Bridport 10 & Puddletown 27 v Bournemouth 3rd xv 14.
On Sunday Weymouth & Portland’s women’s team played their first game since they newly reformed in mid-summer. The squad had a mix of newcomers and some more experienced players to help guide and coach them through their first development game. An eye opener for the newbies, but they did us proud. Played 3 lots of 20 mins. The last 20 mins, the team started really coming together after learning about each other the 2 other 20 mind & we then started to have more possession of the ball & that’s the positive we’ll take away. All the newbies absolutely loved it!
