Witness appeal following sexual assault in Weymouth

Officers investigating a sexual assault in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Between 9pm and 9.50pm on Wednesday 11 October 2023, the victim – an 18-year-old woman – was walking in King Street near to the Esso petrol station when an unknown man touched her on the shoulder.

The man made inappropriate comments and attempted to touch her under her clothing. The victim managed to run away from the man.

Police Constable Sam Welch, of Weymouth police, said: “We have now been able to take a full account from the victim, who has understandably been left feeling very distressed following the incident.

“The victim was unable to get a description of the man and I am therefore asking anyone who was in the area and saw what happened to please come forward.

“I am appealing to motorists to please check their dashcam footage around the relevant time, as well as residents and businesses in the vicinity who may have captured anything of relevance on CCTV footage.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55230161797. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online at Crimestoppers-uk.org or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
