Not a good day for Weymouth’s sporting teams, the Football Club lost at the Bob Lucas Stadium to National League South promotion chasers Worthing.
The Terras fans had to wait until the 78th minute of the game for striker Malachi Linton to beat the Rebel’s custodian and open their account with a goal.
But by then they were 3 nil down then they conceded yet again in the 84th minute before Worthing went down to 9 men out on the park after 2 of their players had suffered the wrath of the referee and both seen red cards.
Our Man at the Match said, “In my opinion the score line doesn’t reflect the game over the 90 minutes. Weymouth missed some good chances in second half which would have gone into the goal on other games. After their sending off they were very quick in reorganising. After the break Weymouth pushed up to try and get a goal or two back but they were very quick on the break. Their top scorer and probably the best striker in the league scored a hat trick which brings his tally to 32 goals this season”.
“About a minute before full time they had a second player dismissed for a second yellow card. It was hard to tell they only played with 10 for most if the game, oh and their manager had a red”.
He added, “Worthing were a good team and well organised but I believe the Terras are now 17th in the table and 12pts clear from relegation zone”.
The Weymouth & Portland rugby team travelled to Bath to lock horns with Walcot in a Tribute Southern Counties fixture, but the Seasiders didn’t travel well and returned to Dorset on the wrong end of 31 points to 5 result.
Reece Makin scored a late consolation try for the Seahorses.
In the same division Dorchester lost away at Frome by 18 points to 7 and Swanage & Wareham put visitors Yeovil to the sword at Bestwall Park scoring 42 points with no reply form Yeovil.
In the Tribute Dorset & Wilts Leagues Bridport won by the narrowest of margins at East Dorset Dockers with the final scoreline Dockers 17 v Bridport 18, Wheatshief Cabin Crew and Blandford fought out a 10 points to all draw in Salisbury and Puddletown didn’t even have to pull their boots on to win the league points as Salisbury 3rds failed to raise a team to travel to Greenfields.
Dorchester a xv lost at Chapelgate by 19 points to 17 against Bournemouth Wanderers.
The one highlight of the afternoon was Dorchester Football Club’s performance away at Bracknell in a Southern Premier League fixture, the Magpies led by 2 nil at the half time break courtesy of goals from Olli Haste and Shaq Gwengwe then in the second half Dorchester added a third goal from Jack Dixon.
The hosts managed to grab a consolation goal, but it came too late to alter the outcome and it’s the Magpies who travelled back to the Avenue Stadium with all 3 league points in the bank.
In the Wessex League Portland went down by 2 goals to nil at Grove Corner against visitors AFC Stoneham.
Bridport’s match at St Mary’s against Ivybridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Terras women’s development team have been presented with the Dorset Football League Fair Play award.
Dorchester defender Jordi Foot has exited the Magpies on route to Wessex League club Shaftsbury.
Following Maidstone’s successful FA Cup run which will see them take on Coventry City in the next round of the competition, it has been decided that Weymouth’s away fixture on Saturday 24th February will be postponed until Tuesday 9th April. Unfortunately, that leaves the club with no fixture on the 24th. The Terras management admit a midweek trip is a difficult one for supporters but respect the decision made and wish Maidstone the very best of luck against Coventry.
