The Dorset & Wilts Under 20 County team locked horns with their Oxfordshire counterparts in the Jason Leonard RFU Under 20 County Championship at Dorchester rugby club on Sunday afternoon and except for a couple of defensive lapses in the first half they totally overwhelmed their guests who just could not compete with the intensity of the Combined Counties game.
The Twin Counties youngsters conceded a try in their first attack of the game when an Oxford back intercepted a stray pass in centre field and ran half the length of the park to touch down for a try beneath the Counties posts and then land the conversion, but for the next 37 minutes it was all one-way traffic with just about every Dorset & Wilts attack resulting points on the scoreboard.
However, Oxfordshire struck again with the last move of the first half when their number 8 forward picked up the ball from the base of the scrum and barged his way over the line to score a try in the corner that made the score 31 points to 12 at the break in Dorset& Wilts favour.
After the break the Twin Counties took almost total control of the proceedings conceding nothing and running in trys almost at will to make the final score Dorset & Wilts 79 points to Oxfordshire’s 12.
Maurice Goodchild (Bournemouth RFC} crossed the whitewash 3 times for Dorset & Wilts as did Euan Baird (Swanage & Wareham RFC) Dylan Walters (Dorchester RFC) and Rhys Gosling (Wimborne RFC) both touched down twice with Josh Kerrigan (Salisbury RFC) and Louis Allum (Bournemouth RFC) both scoring a try each.
