Demolition has begun at the site of a former Weymouth Holly Court retirement complex to make way for a new development.
The demolition of the building on Dorchester Road began recently with the safe removal of the asbestos. The heavy machines moved in today (Tuesday 28th May) following the bank holiday weekend.
Holly Court’s roof was left severely damaged in 2022, following Storm Eunice.
Our reporter Idris Martin comments: “Back in the day, I was employed by H. W. Smith as an apprentice electrician and worked on the construction of the building. If my memory is correct, the main building contractor was Ricardo from Dorchester, and it was built around 1970/71.
“As far as I am aware, neither Ricardo nor H. W. Smith no longer exist. ”
