Weekend Sports Preview

Weymouth Football Club’s Senior Men’s team have a break from the National League South competition this weekend when the Terras visit Weston Super Mare for an FA Trophy tie.

The Terras have already travelled to the Woodspring Stadium this season back on Bonfire Night and returned with a share of the National League South Points following a 1-all draw.

The Seagulls sit proudly on top of the league table, winning 10 of their 16 games, drawing 4 and suffering only 2 defeats, so if the Terras can repeat their earlier season result and force a replay at the Bob Lewis Stadium, then they could have a chance of progressing into the next round draw, but it is a big ask.

It’s top versus 4th of the Southern Premier League Table at the Avenue Stadium, where Dorchester Men host league leaders Merthyr Town on Saturday.

The Welshmen’s away record reads Played 5, won 4, Lost 1, while the Magpie’s home record reads Played 7, Won 5, Drawn 1 and Lost 1, so it’s all to play for, and it would be a brave man to predict the outcome of this match.

In the Wessex Premier League, Portland United welcomes Andover New Street to Grove Corner, and in the Southwest Peninsular East, Bridport travel into Devon to play Torridgeside.

On Sunday, Weymouth Football Club’s women’s home game against Sticker at the Bob Lewis Stadium has been postponed, while the Avenue Stadium stages a Derby clash where Dorchester Ladies meet their Bridport counterparts with the game kicking off at 2:00pm.

In the local Tribute Rugby Leagues, Swanage & Wareham lock horns with Dorchester at Bestwall in a Southern Counties League Derby.

In the Dorset & Wilts Divisions, Blandford plays East Dorset Dockers at Larksmead and, Lytchett Minster entertains Puddletown, Bridport visit Oakmeadians, and Weymouth & Portland take the road to Wimborne to play their second team.
