It was a very successful weekend for the Dorset & Wilts RFU County teams.
On Saturday at Maidenhead Rugby Club, the senior men’s team overcame the challenge of Berkshire in a Bill Beaumont RFU County Championship game, beating their hosts by 41 points to 35. This is despite collecting 6 yellow cards on route to the final whistle.
North Dorset number 8 James Kennedy banked a hat-trick of tries, with one try each coming from fellow clubmate Rylie Lewis and Chippenham flanker Alex Salah. Royal Wotton Bassett fly half Rhys Floyd kept the scoreboard turning over, converting all 5 tries and also adding 2 penalties.
Next Saturday, the Twin Counties host Sussex at Chippenham Rugby Club.
On Sunday, the Dorset & Wilts Senior Women played Somerset Women in a Gill Burns County match at Melksham Rugby Club and emerged victors by 27 points to 5.
Sunday next, they travel to Banbury to lock horns with Oxfordshire Women.
Also on Sunday, the Dorset & Wilts Under 17 team fought out a 45-point all draw against Berkshire Under 17 at Maidenhead.
In the Dorset Cricket Leagues T20 Western Division, Dorchester beat Bere Regis by 26 runs, then fought out a much closer contest against Martinstown, winning by 9 runs.
In Dorset Division 1, Weymouth travelled to Wimborne and beat the Minster Men’s second team by 112 runs, while Portland Red Triangle took the road to Ringwood to play the Royal Challengers Sports Club and returned to The Royal Manor with a 42-run win in the bank.
