Reeve the Baker plans to open latest shop in Dorchester during November – part of a wider expansion plan.
The bakery has applied for a pavement licence covering nine metres across the new shop at 6 South Street and extending two metres from its frontage. The proposal includes eight chairs and four tables, subject to licensing approval. Proposed opening hours are 8am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 4pm on Sundays.
The premises was last used by the Halifax Building Society.
Dorchester will become the company’s 14th branch as it prepares to expand across southern England, with new investors backing growth from 13 shops to about 45 by 2031.
Reeve the Baker is a third-generation family business founded in 1952, when Harold Reeve established the bakery. His son Ray opened its first shop in Wilton, Wiltshire in 1971.
More than 200 people are employed, with products made at its Wilton bakery. The range includes sourdough bread, cheese straws and doughnuts.
