Football – Sunday:
Dorset Under 18 League Cup Final, at Milborne St Andrew football club.
Weymouth 1 vs Portland United 1, Portland win on penalties.
The Blues lifted the converted trophy, but they did it the hard way, going down to 10 men on the hour after one of their defenders was dismissed for a second yellow card offence.
The Terras, who controlled much of the second half, were denied victory by a superb Portland defence, where the Blues goalkeeper Tom Jobe emerged a hero by keeping his team in the game, making 2 superb saves, then, after the 90 minutes had elapsed, the result had to be decided by penalties.
It went into sudden death, and Jobe managed to get behind the ball and push it over the crossbar, signalling rapturous celebrations in the Portland camp.
Both goals came in the first half, Weymouth’s from Ben Moss and Portland’s courtesy of James Coat.
