Nitrous oxide cannisters have been found on the pavement in Weymouth.
While walking his dog, a Weymouth resident stumbled across around ten nitrous oxide canisters abandoned on the pavement in a residential area of the town.
The resident said, “I was on the phone to Dorset County Council’s emergency department when two Police Support Officers pitched up and informed me that it had already been reported to them and that they had been instructed to get them off the street before they fall into the wrong hands”.
It is a criminal offence in England and Wales to be in possession of nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. It’s use, mainly by 16 to 24 year olds, soared during the pandemic.
Inhaling the gas more often than necessary can cause serious and potentially life-threatening health complications such as low blood pressure and low oxygen levels.
