Tragic Fire Claims Life at Lady Bailey Caravan Park

A man in his 80s has sadly died following a serious fire at Lady Bailey Caravan Park in Winterborne Whitechurch on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 11:31am after reports of a blaze in a mobile home just off the A354. At its peak, the incident drew a major response from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, with 11 fire engines, two water carriers, and specialist support vehicles deployed. Approximately 50 firefighters worked to contain the fire, using hose reels and main jets while wearing breathing apparatus.

The fire, which affected three single-storey static homes and an outbuilding, was brought under control by around 1:30pm. Crews remained on site throughout the afternoon to dampen down hotspots, with the final stop message issued at 5:55pm.

Dorset Police confirmed the death of the elderly man and stated that his next of kin and the coroner have been informed. The fire is not currently believed to be suspicious, but a joint investigation between the police and fire service is underway to determine the cause.

Support at the scene was provided by South Western Ambulance Service and Dorset Council.
