Weekend Sports Preview

Following a gap of 148 years, Sturminster Newton Football Club has entered next season’s F. A. Cup competition.

Originally known as Panthers FC, the club eventually became Sturminster Newton United in 1945.

Last season’s promotion into the Wessex Premier League and Step 5 of the National League System means the club will once again become eligible to enter the qualifying rounds of the FA Cup.

Former Weymouth wideman Matt Burrows has signed for Dorchester Football Club.

A DORSET kart racing circuit that helped launch the motor racing careers of Formula One stars Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton is to be demolished under redevelopment plans for the Clay Pigeon leisure complex.

Developers plan to replace the Clay Pigeon Raceway Circuit and adjacent shooting school with 226 chalet-style holiday homes. More info here: Clay Pigeon raceway
