Dorset Police received a report at 8.33pm on Sunday 2 August 2026 of a collision on the Old Sherborne Road, near to Alton Lane in the area of Cerne Abbas, involving a black Mazda CX-5 and a silver Kia Sportage.
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
Emergency services attended and the two occupants of the Mazda – a woman aged in her 40s and a man aged in his 30s – were both taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.
The driver of the Kia – a woman aged in her 60s – was also taken to hospital for injuries that were believed to be life-threatening and a male passenger was treated for injuries that were not believed to be serious.
Road closures were put in place as emergency services responded to the incident and enquiries were carried out at the scene.
Sergeant Leanne Howes, of the Serious Collision Investigation Team, said: “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident, and I would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision, or the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to it.
“I am would also urge any motorists who were travelling in the area around the time of the collision to please check any dashcam footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.
“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
